Reading will travel to Combined Counties Premier Division North side Burnham in the quarter-final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

A prestigious local tournament dating back to 1879, non-league sides from Berkshire and Buckinghamshire pit their wits against professional sides in the region.

Winning the first edition, the Royals are four-time winners and lifted the trophy back in 2022.

A side comprised of Academy players will travel to the 1878 Stadium on Thursday, February 29 to get the campaign underway.

Milton Keynes Dons are now the only other professional side in the competition after League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers pulled out due to fixture congestion.

The Chairboys have won the cup a record 29 times, most recently in 2012, but have decided not to take part this year.

A statement from the club said: "Wycombe Wanderers have withdrawn from this season’s Berks & Bucks Senior Cup due to a congested schedule in both League 1 and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

"At the time of being required to make the decision, the club would not be able to commit to fulfilling potentially three fixtures in the competition, alongside the possibility of playing two further games in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy after next week’s quarter-final against Brighton & Hove Albion.

"The club also has to schedule a new date for last weekend’s postponed league fixture with Port Vale, and could be required to move the league game at Cambridge United (which falls on an international weekend) and the home game with Derby County (which falls on the weekend of the Trophy final), both of which would become midweek fixtures.

"Wanderers currently have four players out on loan (Laurie Shala, Taylor Clark, Declan Skura and D’Mani Mellor), with the potential of more development squad players departing on loan this month, each of whom would be likely or certain to miss Berks & Bucks Senior Cup fixtures due to commitments with their loan clubs.

"With no academy or designated under-21 team, the club would be unable to field a team that is in keeping with the integrity of and respectful to the competition.

"Wycombe Wanderers have a long-held proud association with the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup and looks forward to participating in the competition again in future.

"In the meantime, it thanks the Berks & Bucks FA for its understanding and co-operation, and wishes the participants every success for this year’s tournament."
