SLOUGH Town are searching for a new striker after losing Ben Harris for the rest of the season.

Harris tore knee ligaments in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Dartford, leaving Rebels short of options for this Saturday’s trip to National League South rivals Bath City (3pm ko).

The extent of the damage is not yet know, though it is likely Harris will face several months on the sidelines.

Slough joint-bosses Neil Baker and John Underwood have since been desperately trying to bring in a new forward to bolster their front line – but sadly without reward.

Baker told the Observer: “It looks like Ben may have done his MCL (medial collateral ligament) so it may be the end of his season unfortunately.

“We are looking daily at forwards we can bring in. Two or three players nearly signed, but they didn’t come through at the last minute.”

Baker watched on-loan Slough forward Dan Roberts feature in Windsor’s 2-1 victory against Reading City on Tuesday night, while Baker was scouting a player elsewhere.

“John and I were watching players at different games on Tuesday,” confirmed Baker. “We put in a seven-day approach for one of them but he ended up signing for another club in our league that is five minutes from his house.

“We also tried to bring in a player on loan for the rest of the season, but he has since picked up an injury.

“So it’s back to the drawing board and I doubt we will get anyone in before the weekend.”

Harris scored against Dartford but was forced off late in the first half after an accidental collision with teammate Matt Lench.

To make matters worse his replacement, Chris Flood, also picked up a knock and failed to appear for the season half.

Flood, though, faced a fitness test today (Friday) and could make the squad for the trip to Bath City.

Baker added: “Scoring goals has been our problem all season really. We’ve competed well in almost every game, but we haven’t killed teams off when we’ve been on top.

“Matty Stevens came to us early on, but when he left we didn’t replace him. Ben has been in good form, but now we’ve lost him to injury as well.

“We will continue to try and bring someone in for what’s left of this season, but we will also have one eye on next season.”

Rebels are now without a win in six games going into this weekend’s clash, though Baker was far from disappointed with the team’s display against Dartford.

“We played well, it was a really good performance and I thought we did enough to win it,” he argued.

“Saying that, we also could have lost and we needed a fantastic save and block on the line at the end to take a point.

“On the whole we were very happy with the way we played against a good Dartford side who are pushing for the play-offs.

“We wanted to get the win because they have been elusive recently, but in isolation it was a positive display in a very tough game. Now we need to take that to Bath City who are another strong side in this division.”
