SLOUGH Jets head coach Lukas Smital believes his side showed good character to win 4-3 at Bracknell Hornets in the National Ice Hockey League on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.
Goals from William Stead and Joshua-Ealey Newman gave Bracknell a clear inside 13 minutes, before Samuel Talbot pulled one back for the Jets.
Slough equalised when Harry Harcup found the back of the net five minutes into the middle period, but the Hornets led at the second buzzer thanks to a goal from Steven Fisher.
The visitors raised their game in the final stanza and secured the points with goals from Daniel Rose and Talbot.
Smital told the Observer: "We dropped our levels against Swindon Wildcats 2s but picked them up against a big team at their place. It was a good win and we played well.
"We didn't start slowly but Bracknell scored two goals. We recovered straight away to tie the game and won it in the end by being consistent and plugging away.
"We hadn't been in a situation like that (behind) for a while but we were quite prepared for it in our heads.
"Your mental game is a big part in any sport and we showed good character. We played a disciplined game and that brought us the win towards the end."
The win means Slough have moved up to second position in the league table and three points behind Chelmsford Chieftains with a game in hand on the leaders.
The Jets welcome eighth-placed Guildford to the Slough Ice Arena this Saturday (5.45pm), and Smital knows his side must remain focused to extend their 10-match winning streak.
He said: "Guildford are a young team, hungry and quick. We can't allow them any room to use their pace.
"We just need to stay focused and play our game. We've pretty much done that all year."
Slough Sirens return to action in Women's Division One South with a visit from Coventry Phoenix this Sunday (6pm).
