LANGLEY FC got their Hellenic Division Two East season off to an impressive start with a 3-0 home victory over Thatcham Town Development.
Manager Alan Paris endured a difficult summer after nearly every player from last season’s squad departed, many to neighbours Wraysbury.
But Paris’s last-minute recruitment drive appears to have worked a treat after a terrific start to the campaign.
The home side powered into a 3-0 lead before half-time and never looked back.
Calvin Morgan put Langley ahead in the 14th minute before adding a second 13 minutes later.
Chris Thomas notched a vital third goal three minutes before the interval allowing Langley to coast home to victory.
“It’s a great start from us,” beamed Paris. “We played a lot of teams from higher leagues during pre-season which has definitely helped. You can’t ask for more than three goals and a clean sheet in your first game.”
He also praised Morgan and Thomas, saying: “Both goalscorers were outstanding and we were solid at the back.
"We are a completely new team, but we’ve brought in quality. We had to find more than 20 players and we’ve only been together for a few weeks, so to get off to a start like this is brilliant.”
Langley, who are groundsharing with Holyport FC, face Virginia Water Development this Saturday, and Paris added: “Their first team don’t have a game, so they could be very strong. But we have a few players coming back from injury so we’ll give it our best shot.”
