THERE were doubles all round at Windsor Races on Monday, their last late evening meeting of the season, writes Dave Wright.
Ryan Moore won twice on horses trained by Sir Michael Stoute, including one owned by The Queen, while French jockey Gerald Mosse also completed a brace of wins.
If Her Majesty was watching the meeting on television, she would probably have groaned when seeing Sharp Practice (11/2) last to emerge from the stalls in the one-mile fillies’ handicap.
But the three-year-old, also bred by the Queen, quickly made up lost ground on his four rivals and, racing against the rails, edged home by a short head from Golden Iris, ridden by Rob Hornby.
Moore was back in the winner’s enclosure after the final race on Midi (5/4f), an offspring of superstar Frankel and wearing the same famous colours of owner Prince Khalid Abdullah.
It was an impressive performance by Midi, who made all in the 10-furlong contest, winning by a length-and-a-quarter from the 11/8 second favourite, Petrastar, ridden Adam Kirby.

The feature race of the evening was the Sky Bet Windsor Sprint Series Finale Handicap with more than £46,600 for the winner.
It went the way of 10/1 shot Udontdodou, with Mosse striking late on the Richard Guest-trained five-year-old to finish a neck in front of the 9/2 favourite Silent Echo, trained by Peter Hedger and ridden by Tom Marquand.
Marquand had driven 230 miles down from Thirsk after winning the 2.05pm race on the Queen’s Topical in his first ride at the North Yorkshire track.
Mosse had earlier won Windsor’s second race aboard 16/1 shot Fares Kodiac, trained by Marco Botti, getting the verdict by just a nose from Swindler, the mount of Liam Keniry.
Apart from Midi, the only other favourite to oblige was the 7/4 Hats Off To Larry, smartly ridden by apprentice Scott McCullagh and trained by Mick Channon.
10/1 shot Udontdodou wins the feature race at Windor on Monday.
Porto Ferro (9/1), with Kieran O’Neill in the saddle, held on gamely to win the five-furlong Sky Bet Proud To Support Candelighters Handicap.
There is more racing at Windsor this Saturday with a seven-race card, from 4.45pm to 7.45pm, followed by a Kaiser Chiefs concert.
There is also a late afternoon meeting on Monday, September 3, starting at 4.25pm.
