Community halls across Slough could be sold by the council in a bid to cut hundreds of thousands of pounds in spending next year.
Slough Borough Council has 11 halls available to hire at eight community centres. But draft spending plans suggest the council could ‘dispose of’ some of them – suggesting that this could save £200,000.
No decision on any hall has yet been made, but the council told the Observer that all of them were ‘under general review’ and that some are ‘under used’.
A Slough Borough Council spokesperson said: “Community hire halls across the borough are under general review and whilst the council recognises their importance, there is also a recognition that some are under used and hence consolidation may make practical sense.”

The council added that, as with other asset sales, it would discuss options with groups, organisations and people connected to each halls when making a decision. The final say on any sale would be made by leading councillors at meetings open to the public.
The cut is included in draft budget plans published earlier this month that propose £10.78 million in savings next year. But the plans say Slough Borough Council may still need to find as much as £17.35 million more for its final budget to be approved in February 2025.
The draft plans are on the council’s website along with a survey open to the public. The final plans will be decided at a meeting of all councillors in February.
