A Slough woman is helping to deliver over £3 million in bargains this Black Friday.

Gurkiran Kaur Rai, who works for DHL Express, has shared how she will bring Black Friday to life this year.

It comes as Brits are expected to spend a whipping £3.8 billion across Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales this year.

Generation Logistics, an awareness campaign for logistics, has given a behind-the-scenes look at how the magic of Black Friday is made possible.

Ms Kaur Rai said: "I have worked every Black Friday for the last seven years.

"It is definitely a challenge, but one that as a team we are all fully prepared for.

"The holiday period is one of my favourite times to work - you finish every shift knowing that you’ve played a part in delivering what people want."

As a transport operations manager for DHL Express, Ms Kaur Rai has the important role of making sure that deals are delivered across the UK and overseas.

She added: "I love my job. It’s incredibly rewarding with great benefits and perks.

"But for me, the main benefit is working with an amazing group of people who keep the DHL Express network moving."

An efficient logistics system is key to fulfilling the many orders made during the Black Friday period.

Every stage of the logistics journey is important to its success, from express delivery to supply chain management.

The logistics sector is thought to employ around 2.7 million people across the UK, with a wide range of roles on offer.

Bethany Windsor, programme director at Generation Logistics, said: "The Black Friday period is one of the busiest times for logisticians, and with predictions for 2024 spend revealed, it looks to be another busy year.

"The sector is responsible for ensuring that deliveries make it to doorsteps on time, which I’m sure is a factor that many shoppers might not consider whilst they wait for their parcels to arrive.

"It takes a lot of effort and skills behind the scenes to bring deliveries to life, but especially so during peak periods such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

"With so many roles and responsibilities needed for a successful supply chain, it really demonstrates the number of career opportunities that are available for those looking to work in a busy sector.

"Through Generation Logistics, we aim to raise awareness of the different roles and encourage the next generation of logistics professionals, as we work hard to keep the country running from this Black Friday, to the next."
