A bus lane on Wellington Street could be scrapped under plans being considered at Slough Borough Council.
Draft spending plans published by the council last week suggest it hopes to make £100,000 next year from bus lanes, 20 miles per hour limits and borough-wide parking controls.
A council spokesperson told the Observer that the plans could include removing ‘the short stretch of bus lane on Wellington Street’. The council said most bus lanes would ‘remain as they are,’ although they could be shortened near turnings to help drivers turn left across them.
Conservative councillors launched a review of the bus lanes in August last year, having taken control of the council in the 2023 local elections.

There are two stretches of bus lane along Wellington Street – one running east to west along the main dual carriageway and a shorter one turning right onto Stoke Road. The council didn’t specify which would be removed.
The spokesperson said: “Bus lanes will remain as they are, with some adjusted to end them further back from turnings, to help drivers turn left across them. We also intend the remove the short stretch of bus lane on Wellington Street.”
The proposals are part of early-stage budget plans, which can be viewed on the council’s website along with a survey open to residents. The final version will be voted on by councillors in February next year.
