A Slough care home has created a poignant display to mark Remembrance Day.

Residents and staff at Care UK's Oak House, on Wexham Road collaborated to produce the tribute.

The display, aimed at honouring those lost to war, consists of knitted poppies and paintings.

An estimated 150 poppies, all created by the home's knitting club, form part of the display.

This is complemented by paintings of poppy fields, crafted by the residents and team members during weekly sessions.

Resident Robert Coffey, who participated in the project, said: "I enjoyed the project and I am very proud of the final outcome.

"Remembrance Day is a time to honour those who fought in the war.

"By celebrating this day, we pay our respects to the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives for our countrymen."

The artwork is set to remain on display throughout the home for everyone to appreciate.

Agnieszka Klimkowicz-Buda, home manager at Oak House, said: "We are so proud of the team, residents and everyone who has worked tirelessly to create such a beautiful display.

"Crafts and other creative activities have many therapeutic benefits for older people, particularly those living with dementia, by keeping their brains busy and providing a sense of purpose.

"More importantly, Remembrance Day holds a very special meaning to residents, as many of them may have served in the forces or lived through World War II and heard stories from their parents or older siblings.

"We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to our wonderful display by creating a poppy or painting; every single one of our visitors has been absolutely amazed by the result."

She extended an invitation to the community to come and view the display.
