The Slough Philharmonic Society, which has been bringing live music to the community for over 80 years, is preparing for their upcoming performance in Maidenhead.
Under the direction of conductor Leon Gee, the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6, Pathétique, Brahms' Double Concerto, and Nielsen's Helios Overture on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
The concert will take place at 5.30pm at Braywick Leisure Centre, Maidenhead.
Tchaikovsky's Pathétique, a defining piece of the romantic period, is expected to resonate deeply with the audience.
The composer himself considered it to be his greatest work, a fitting testament to its emotional range and depth.
The Brahms Double Concerto, another highlight of the evening, will feature soloists Maja Horvat and Akito Goto.
This concerto is historically significant, marking a reconciliation between Brahms and his former friend, violinist Jacob Joachim, after years of estrangement.
The evening's repertoire also includes Nielsen's Helios Overture, which poetically depicts the journey of the sun across the sky, reminiscent of the composer’s experience in Greece.

The Slough Philharmonic Society, established in 1941 by SEGRO (then Slough Estates), has continued to thrive, with its members funding and managing the orchestra and chorus.
These ensembles, which rehearse in Burnham, perform a varied repertoire from great symphonies and concertos to major choral works in local venues.
The society is known for working with professional soloists, often featuring emerging talent, to ensure high-quality performances for the audience.
As a part of their mission to spread the joy of live music, the Slough Philharmonic Society has also announced a festive concert for December 14, 2024.
The concert, held in the school hall of Eton College, will feature a delightful programme including Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
