Part of a major town centre office block could be turned into flats if Slough Borough Council gives plans the green light.

Charter Court on Windsor Road – opposite the council’s headquarters – could be converted under plans by development company Quinata Property Group.

A statement submitted to the council on behalf of Quinata said: “The proposal is to convert part of the building to provide 67 residential flats.”

If plans are approved, Quinata will have permission to build a mixture of one-bed, two-bed and studio flats in the five-storey town centre office block.

The developer doesn’t need full planning permission as planning law says conversions of offices to flats have ‘prior approval’.

But council planning officers still need to inspect the plans to ensure that the new homes won’t cause a ‘severe’ impact on the roads, and that occupants will have acceptable living conditions.

A description of the plans suggests there will be 101 parking spaces for the 67 flats in a basement car park that already exists. There would also be secure storage for 96 cycles.

The description says that the amount of traffic visiting the building would be lower than under its current use as an office. It also says that all flats will meet the minimum requirements for light, space and noise protection.

The plans were submitted to the council on October 15 and are pending consideration by planning officers.
