A concerned parent has reached out after their child informed them that a fellow student allegedly 'pulled a knife out' during school hours.

The incident occurred between two female pupils at Ditton Park Academy on Tuesday, October 22.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that a girl, 14, was arrested after a student suffered 'superficial wounds' on her face.

The parent, who has asked not to be named, said that they were sent a 'generic email' from Ditton Park Academy about the incident but nothing specific was mentioned.

"My child then called me at lunch time and told me that two students were fighting and one child allegedly pulled a knife out," they claimed.

"Me and my partner were really shocked, we just got sent that email with no information, just that an incident had occurred."

The email sent out to parents stated that they may already be aware that an isolated incident happened during period one this morning (Tuesday, October 22) involving two students.

It read: "The matter has been dealt with quickly and the school is operating as normal.

"Support has been offered to anyone who needs to talk to a member of staff. Please be mindful that we are working closely with external agencies and appreciate your understanding and support at this time."

The parent went on to say that they felt the school were trying to give the impression that something 'lowkey' had happened when in fact it was something a lot bigger.

They also said they were surprised that children were not sent home after the incident.

"Me and my partner just thought 'what the h***?" they said. "We just cannot believe that something like that would happen at the school."

Headteacher Nick Caulfield, confirmed that the emergency services were called to the school following the incident and parents were immediately informed.

He said: “This incident was managed swiftly with no further injuries to other pupils or staff.

“Pupils, parents and staff are being offered appropriate support should any of them need it.
