Tributes have been paid after a teenage boy died in a crash involving a motorcycle in Datchet. 

A 56-year-old man from Datchet, initially arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, Thames Valley Police said.

Speaking directly to The Observer, the representative for Datchet, Horton, and Wraysbury councillor Jodie Grove said that she is deeply saddened and shocked by what has taken place.

"This is an exceptionally sad and shocking situation, and my sincere condolences go out to the friends and families of the two young men involved," she said.

The councillor went on to say how everyone in the area has been hit hard by the news of the 16-year-old's death, and that locals want answers regarding the arrest. 

"To have a teenager lose their life, and another be seriously injured, within our small community hits everyone hard, and I know people will want answers," Cllr Grove continued. 

"I echo the request of the Thames Valley Police that we avoid speculation and trust that they are doing their utmost to establish exactly what took place on Saturday."

Officers found a motorcycle that had left the road and two boys, aged 16 and both from Slough, seriously injured. 

The crash happened outside the Liquid Leisure Centre on the Horton Road in Datchet, Berkshire, at about 4 pm on Saturday, October 19.

Cllr Grove continued: "In the meantime, we must all give the families time to grieve, and allow them to focus on supporting the injured young man in his recovery."

Thames Valley Police have released a statement updating the public on the current situation of the investigation. 

A spokesperson has revealed that the man who was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder is still in police custody.

They also revealed that the second victim is still in hospital at this point in time. 

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Stuart May said: “A 56-year-old man from Datchet has been arrested, initially on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"Subsequently, he was further arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He remains in police custody at this time.

“Our investigation is moving at a fast pace, with a number of enquiries ongoing, including obtaining and reviewing CCTV, forensic examinations, house to house enquiries, taking of witness statements and conducting interviews with the arrested man.

“I want to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or may have footage from the area on Saturday afternoon to please contact the force as soon as possible.
