Progress is being made in turning a large office block in Slough into dozens of new flats.

Developer Shaviram Slough Limited would like to turn some floors of a ten-storey office block into flats.

The whole office block located at 1-7 the Grove will become flats after various planning applications have been approved by Slough Borough Council.

But plans to convert the first three floors of the block have been faced with difficulty – after being originally refused by the council in 2019 over concerns there wouldn’t be enough natural light.

Although the plans were then granted at appeal in 2022, developers have resubmitted plans and reduced the number of flats to be built.

A change in use application for the fourth to ninth floors of the building was also approved.

The application for the first three floors indicates a planned 39 one-bedroom studio sized apartments, ten one-bedroom apartments suitable for two people, and seven two-bedroom apartments.

The offices are in Slough town centre, a 12-minute walk away from Slough Train station and a short drive away from London Heathrow Airport.

Just 25 parking spaces would be provided for the flats as well as cycle spaces and bin collections.

Plans have passed assessments including whether potential residents would get enough daylight or be impacted by noise from surrounding properties.

It is also nearby schools and employment opportunities, the application says.

The developer has argued that there are ‘no grounds for refusing’ the proposed change of use as there are other residential apartment blocks close by.
