A fast food restaurant in Windsor has asked for permission to be able to sell alcohol, just months after opening.

Itsu on Peascod Street has applied to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council for a licence to sell alcohol between 9am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday. However current restaurant opening hours are currently 10am – 8pm.

The fast food restaurant chain markets itself as a healthier eating, ‘Asian-inspired’ food restaurant which sells sushi as well as rice boxes, noodle bowls and bao buns.

Outlets also sell soft drinks, tea and flavoured water – and some also sell the Japanese lager Asahi.

The chain’s application to sell alcohol is pending consideration at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and residents have until November 6 to make comments.

The Itsu opened at Peascod Street – previously occupied by a branch of the Halifax building society – on July 19 this year.

The Halifax branch closed in December 2022. Then, a year later in December 2023, Itsu applied for planning permission to convert it into a restaurant and this was granted in February.

The chain’s first restaurant was opened in Chelsea, London, in 1997 and has expanded with over 85 restaurants since then.
