Colnbrook-based Grundon Waste Management is celebrating 10 years of a trailblazing eco-friendly scheme that has helped communities all around the world.

The CarbonNeutral Protocol, overseen by Climate Impact Partners, spans over 600 projects across 56 countries, with a collective goal of achieving 1 billion tonnes of CO2 reductions.

Grundon Waste Management has been part of the scheme for over a decade - with the company's fleet of eco-friendly vehicles offsetting the equivalent of over 115,000 tonnes of carbon.

As a result of the decade-long commitment to maintaining a certified CarbonNeutral fleet, the firm's purchase of carbon credits have changed lives across the planet.

These credits have installed 16 wind turbines in Guatemala, provided well access to 90,000 people in Uganda, and bought 75,000 efficient cookstoves across the Kenya and India.

Reflecting on firm's life changing work, Toni Robinson, Risk & Sustainability Director, said: We are proud to share the impact our contributions to these projects are making.

“Through carbon credits, we’ve been able to make meaningful improvements in the quality of life for countless individuals and foster a more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Alongside the carbon offsetting programme, the company is investing £6.5 million a year to expand its existing electric waste collection vehicle fleet and focus on new technologies and alternative fuels for the future.

Chairman Neil Grundon said: “Whilst we recognise carbon offsetting is just one of the solutions to help combat climate change, we take immense pride in our decade-long commitment to making a positive impact through carbon neutrality since 2014.

“As the first of the major waste industry players to adopt the CarbonNeutral® fleet certification, we led the way in offsetting our carbon emissions and ensuring that waste collections did not add to our customers’ carbon footprint."
