Residents of Maidenhead are being asked to share their views on the future of the borough's first 'School Street.'
The consultation follows a successful trial period in St Adrians Close, which saw traffic restrictions at the start and end of the school day for Wessex Primary School.
The move, which was largely supported by the community and the school, allowed for a safer and less congested environment for parents and pupils, promoting walking and wheeling, improving health, and reducing carbon emissions.
With plans to make the initiative permanent, the council is now considering replacing the original volunteer stewards with a number plate recognition camera.
This change will ensure that residents, school staff, blue badge holders, and emergency services can continue to use St Adrian's Close during school peak hours.
The council's School Street initiative, designed to enhance school journeys and promote physical activity, is funded by an active travel grant.
The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has shared a video on YouTube that illustrates the transformation of St Adrian's Close from a congested thoroughfare to a more pedestrian-friendly School Street.
The footage shows a marked increase in the number of parents and pupils walking and wheeling, highlighting the positive effects of the trial.
Councillor Catherine del Campo, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health, and Housing Services, remarked on the noticeable improvement in the environment and the health benefits of the scheme.
She said: "You need only look at the video to see the huge difference this makes to the environment and to everyone's health.
"The numbers of parents and pupils chatting to and from school, stretching their legs and enjoying being out of their cars.
"Before the trial started, only ten per cent of pupils, parents and guardians said they felt safe walking and wheeling to school compared to 84 per cent once the scheme started.
"And 35 per cent say they now walk or wheel more or further as a result.
"So I urge everyone with an interest in the St Adrains Close School Street to take part in the consultation."
The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 4, and cane be found on the RBWM Together website.
