A high street barbers is set to become a watch shop, plans submitted to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council suggest.

The shop – 14 High Street in Windsor – was previously a branch of Headcase Barbers, which closed earlier this year.

Now plans approved the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in August suggest it could reopen as Royal Windsor Watches. Plans say: “The proposed work relates to the ground floor shop only which has been vacant for more than 6 months. Prior to its vacancy it was used as a barber shop.”

They add: “The type of shop proposed (high end watch sales) demands a high quality of finish which will be of benefit to the visuals of the building.”

The local authority has granted permission to install shop signs and adverts at the shop, which is listed and in a conservation area, metres from Windsor Castle.

Council planning officers agreed that the style and colour of the signs – using ‘subtle’ colours and ‘traditional’ lettering were appropriate for Windsor town centre.

They said: “The subtle choice of colours combined with the minimal use of logos or branding creates a “traditional style” of nonintrusive advertising which aligns with the context of the High Street.

“By choosing traditional cursive signage without bright colours or distracting logo choices, this advertising aligns with the historic and traditional character of the area whilst still functioning as appropriate advertising for the type of business.”
