The main entrance into a village will be closed for eight weeks due to works on a major road connecting Windsor and Maidenhead.

Access to Holyport Road from the A308 Windsor Road will be closed for eight weeks from Monday, October 7, as part of wider improvement work to the key route between Maidenhead and Windsor in 2025.

Councillor Geoff Hill, responsible for roads at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council, said the authority had worked to ‘minimise disruption’ for road users.

Work to relocate a gas main will take place on the mini roundabout connecting Holyport Road to the A308. Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the first and last two weeks of construction, to support traffic flow.

A signed diversion route will be in place advising motorists who normally join the A308 from Holyport road to continue their journeys using A330 Ascot Road instead.

The council says it is not permitted to place temporary traffic lights on this diversion route. Other entrance points will remain open for those needing access to Holyport Road.

The Royal Borough council says the work is part of a project to improve safety and capacity on Windsor Road.

Councillor Hill said: “This work is the first phase of a project to make this key route safer and more efficient and follows resident feedback.

“We have worked closely with partners to coordinate what needs to be done, to minimise disruption to road users, as part of the delivery of the upgraded roundabout next year.”
