A construction company contracted to build parts of a huge new data centre campus in Slough has gone bust – but the tech firm in charge says work will continue.

ISG was contracted to build the first two phases of Yondr data centres at the former AkzoNobel site on Wexham Road. But six of ISG’s subsidiaries went into administration on September 20 – bringing several major construction projects across Britain to a halt.

Now Yondr has said it has taken charge of construction itself, meaning work will continue ‘without disruption’.

A Yondr spokesperson said: “ISG was a contractor on just one of Yondr’s projects. We have swiftly engaged with the subcontractors of the project and Yondr has now assumed ISG’s former role as main contractor, mitigating potential risk associated with its delivery. Works continue on the project without disruption.”

Yondr is building a data centre campus roughly the size of 16 football pitches at the former AkzoNobel site. ‘Phase 1’ of the project – a data centre with a capacity of 30 megawatts – has already been completed by ISG and came into operation in August this year.

ISG was also awarded the contract to build ‘phase 2’ in November last year. Yondr did not say whether it was aware the firm might be in financial difficulties.

Councillors on Slough Borough Council’s planning committee approved plans for the third and final phase in July this year.
