A BURGLAR has been jailed after ransacking a home and stealing a car - before the victim spotted the stolen car being driven past him in Slough.

Aylesbury Crown Court heard how Shaun Connors, of Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, was sent to prison after breaking into a home and making off in the car.

The victim, a man aged in his forties, was driving on Wexham Street on May 27 when he saw his wife's car being driven in the opposite direction. He followed the car before finding it abandoned in a layby near Wexham Park Golf Club.

Inside the car, the victim found items belonging to him which were stolen from his home.

Fortunately, the victim’s car was recovered; however, on returning home, he discovered that his house had been searched with drawers thrown on the floor and emptied.

The court heard how Connors ransacked the property and stole a platinum men’s wedding ring, a watch, a pillow case and a dark blue baseball cap. These items were never recovered.

Connors was arrested on July 4 and was charged the following day. He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary on August 5 at Aylesbury Crown Court, and was sentenced at the same court on September 25.

The 28 year old was jailed for two years and three months.

Police staff investigator Debbie Parker-Boyes, part of Aylesbury’s Priority Crime Team, said: “I am satisfied that Connors has been sentenced to a custodial sentence.

“Burglary is an invasive crime which has devastating and long-lasting effects on victims, and I hope this excellent result at court will reassure our communities that we will do act swiftly and do everything in our power to bring offenders before the courts.

“We hope this case serves as a warning to anyone who is thinking of targeting homes and vehicles to burgle that we are determined to fully investigate every report and bring those responsible to justice.”
