Green’s Kitchen and Bar did not close in Windsor because of a dispute with the premises’ landlord, chef Bradley Green has clarified.
The restaurant opened on Peascod Street in Windsor town centre on August 1. But it closed on August 16 citing ‘serious concerns’.
Windsor town manager Paul Roach appeared to suggest that the closure came after Mr Green had ‘a falling out with the landlord’. But Mr Green says he didn’t deal directly with the landlord and that his concerns were with ‘other entities’ involved with the premises.
Mr Green told the Observer: “What was reported was not quite right. It’s not that the landlord was in any way unhappy with what we were going to provide.” But he said that ‘certain factors’ had ‘come to light that were outside of our control’.
Mr Roach made the comments at the Windsor Town Forum hosted by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council. He was replying to a question from councillor Alison Carpenter who had asked about the closure.
But Mr Green suggested that Mr Roach might have misspoken as he attempted to answer the question without revealing confidential information.
The chef added that he did hope he could open another restaurant in Windsor but said ‘quite a number of things would have to happen for that to become a reality’.
Mr Green said: “For us it was like a dream come true – it was right down the road from the castle. The launch went fantastically.” But added that closing was ‘the right thing for Windsor and the right thing for ourselves’.
