What will be done to protect people and homes from flooding, councillors are set to be asked after heavy rain hit Berkshire this week.
Questions to councillors at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead come after hundreds of residents in Wraysbury had to leave their homes during flooding in January. Flood warnings were also issued for rivers in and around the borough on Monday, September 23.
Simon Datchet, from Wraysbury, has asked: “What has the council got planned to support the residents of Hythe End Road Estate, Wraysbury in the event of a flood this winter?”
He has also asked for an update on the council’s efforts to unblock the Wraysbury Drain watercourse. Up to 1,329 people signed a petition earlier this year calling on the council to unblock the stream, which is blocked at various points by debris, roots and gravel.
Councillor Ewan Larcombe of the National Flood Prevention Party has also asked how much money the council is contributing to flood improvement measures between Datchet and Hythe End. This is a joint project between the council and the Environment Agency.
The questions were submitted to the council before this week’s heavy rain and are set to be answered at a full meeting of councillors on Wednesday, September 25.
