A man from Slough has been jailed for his "unprovoked" attack on a man after he had threatened to "smash his teeth in."
Thomas Connors, aged 25, of Cumbrae Close, Slough, was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict of grievous bodily harm without intent following a trial lasting five days at Reading Crown Court.
Connors was subsequently sentenced to one year and four months’ imprisonment.
The jury had heard that at 8.30am on March 15 this year, Connors and another individual approach the victim, a man aged in his thirties, in Slough High Street.
Connors starting arguing with the victim over money and threatening to smash his teeth in, according to a police statement.
Connors then followed the victim to Wellesley Path where he punched him in the head.
As a result of the assault, the victim fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries including a fracture to the right side of the skull, a fractured right eye socket and fractures to the jaw and base of his skull.
The victim required hospital treatment, but is making a recovery.
Connors was arrested on the same day and charged on 16 March.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Cara Brimacombe, based at Slough police station, said: “This was a case of unprovoked violence, which left the victim with serious injuries as a result.
“Connors has rightly been jailed for this act, and I hope this gives him time to reflect on his actions and the impact this has had on the victim.
“I also hope this serves as a reminder that any act of violence will be treated seriously and that even one punch can have extreme consequences for those involved.
“We will not tolerate serious violence within Slough and the Thames Valley, and I hope this conviction shows that we are committed to investigating those who carry out such acts.”
