The scale of economic mismanagement by the Conservatives is undeniable. Its impact on public infrastructure and services can only be reversed with an equally weighty economic plan to get the UK back on its feet.
The Labour government is now acting to fill a £22 billion budgetary black hole dug by the last Tory government. It is having to take difficult decisions, but those are designed to deliver long-term and sustainable economic prosperity for everybody.
Reflecting on this duty, the government has introduced means-testing for winter fuel payments. However, the most vulnerable in our society must be protected.
This is why those in receipt of pension credit will not lose out. If you’re not yet accessing pension credit, please do so, as almost 900,000 pensioners are missing out on an average of £3,900 per year to help with the costs of heating their home.
Labour has also committed to the triple lock on pensions, meaning pensions will rise by well over £400 a year.
The Household Support Fund has also been extended by £421 million. Furthermore, government plans for much more clean, cheaper, homegrown energy will soon cut bills for good - as will its plan to upgrade millions of homes with better insulation.
