Have you ever been at a loss at where to frequent to experience some of the finest quality cuisine?
Following the closure of Michelin star Reading restaurant, L’Ortolan, we have seen many people in disarray over where to visit for the ultimate culinary experience.
Despite the disappointment at L’Ortolan’s closure, Berkshire currently has four Michelin star restaurants known for their excellent service and outstanding food.
Although they sit outside of Reading, these eateries are well worth travelling a short distance for.
Berkshire is so special because unlike many areas around the UK, the county currently has 2 of the 6 restaurants with three-Michelin stars.
The Fat Duck, Bray - Three Michelin star
Heston’s flagship restaurant in Bray has held three stars since 2004.
The Fat Duck offers a magic culinary experience, with many dishes inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s world.
Each dish will overpower the senses and set your taste buds buzzing. The popularity of one of Heston’s restaurants in the charming village means only the most prepared will be able to bag a table by booking months in advance.
This is one of three Michelin star restaurants in Bray – the heart of Berkshire for luxury foodies.
It’s an unforgettable bucket list foodie destination.
The Waterside Inn, Bray - Three Michelin star
The Waterside Inn, located on the beautiful River Thames, was opened by the Roux family in 1972.

The restaurant has retained its stars for 38 years and has been under the helm of Michel Roux since 2022.
It has recently been awarded the best al fresco restaurant to eat in the UK and has been described as a ‘restaurant with rooms’ on The Waterside website is in fact a gastronomic powerhouse.
Bray is one of the best locations in the country to enjoy waterside views and good food.
Woven by Adam Smith - 1 Michelin star
Launched by Adam Smith in 2022, Woven is located in the dining room of the stunning Coworth Park estate.
The talented chef showcases his gastronomic talents by taking classic British flavour combos and giving them a modern twist. Formal fine dining is what you’ll get here – plates of food dressed with ingredients elegantly draped on a plate with tweezers, crisp white table cloths, attentive service and a copper oak leaf halo hanging from the ceiling.
The Hinds Head - 1 Michelin star
Heston’s laid-back little sister is The Hind's Head in Bray – a gastropub with crowd-pleasing dishes done with foodie flair.
The eclectic décor reflects its royal and religious past, especially in the Royal Lounge where cocktails and snacks are a must. Food at this level doesn’t come cheap, but it’s also not going to make your eyes bleed when you get the bill.
The Hinds Head has recently been awarded the Great Pub Award for ‘Best Pub food’ in the UK.
