Religious groups in Slough have formed a coalition against division and intolerance following riots last month.
Slough Faiths Standing Together announced its launch on Thursday, September 5 – with the backing of sixteen religious community leaders.
In its statement it said: “Slough Faiths Standing Together is a consortium of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and other faith groups to promote community cohesion, respect and support for each other.
“As faith community leaders across Slough, and its immediate surrounding areas, we are committed together to building a strong, coherent, and supportive community across our diverse town.
“We support the principles of fairness, justice, equality for all and value the immense contributions of generations of people from different faiths, racial and ethnic backgrounds which have enriched our town and society.”
The statement added: “We urge everyone in our community to stand together, support one another, and reject any attempts to sow discord and intolerance.”
