Residents looking to get rid of unused equipment will be able to access two new recycling centres in Slough.
Slough Borough Council is inviting people to recycle their unused items including adjustable bed rails, shower chairs and toilet frames to either the Observatory House car park or Chalvey Household waste recycling centre.
The authority has opened the sites as part of ‘ongoing commitment to improving community social care services and enhancing accessibility’ for people.
Equipment dropped off at the allocated sites is collected, cleaned and repaired by NRS Healthcare, before being recycled or provided to others in need.
There is a dedicated container labelled for the return of community equipment with items accepted including adjustable bed rails and shower chairs, bathing equipment, commodes, perching stools, rollators and toilet frames. Other similar small community equipment will be accepted.
There are some items that Slough Borough Council has listed as not accepted. These include mattresses, profiling beds, mobile hoists, wheelchairs or anything too large.
This is mainly so containers can hold more medium sized equipment.
Larger items can instead be recycled by calling NRS Healthcare.
Slough Borough Councillor Anna Wright, cabinet member for adult social care, mental health and learning disabilities said: “Rather than leaving the equipment you no longer need getting in the way at home, pop it down to Chalvey HWRC or Observatory House.
“By reusing and recycling equipment, access to items needed is improved for our residents, as well as being kinder to the environment.”
