Thousands of A-Level students across Berkshire were jumping for joy after they received their exam results on Thursday.

Many 18-year-olds had waited eagerly since June to see what grades they would receive in order to achieve a place at their chosen university or college.

And overall, 2024 will be a year to remember as average scores had risen for the first time in three years, with 27.8 per cent of all grades being marked at A* or A - a 27.2 per cent increase from 12 months ago.

“Today [August 15] will have been one of the most important days in their academic life so far, and we are proud of their hard work and dedication.

“We wish our young people every success and good luck as they move onto further education, apprenticeships, or the start of their careers.

“Our young people are the future, and we are committed to ensuring that our children and young people enjoy learning and aim to achieve their full potential.

“The results show again that Slough has improved its average point score from 32.56 in 2022/23 to 33.42 in 2023/24.

“However the average point score as a grade has remained the same as a C+.”

Dr Andrew Morrison, Headteacher at Furze Platt School in Maidenhead, added: “Today is a day to celebrate the team effort of students, staff and families in helping our young people be successful.

“Ultimately, it is what these grades mean to our students that is most important.

"To see them able to embark on the next stage of their lives and enjoy future opportunities is the cumulation of much hard work and our ACHIEVE school values”.
