A shocking YouTube video of a far-right presenter calling for a Slough councillor to 'go back to her own country' been watched almost half a million times online.

The inflammatory video, recorded by Indian TV personality and retired major Gaurav Arya, has branded Slough's Sabia Akram as an an ‘extremist’ after she raised concerns for the safety of Sikh activists in Britain.

A row broke out last month after Ms Akram raised a debate at Slough Borough Council over past and present violence against Sikhs in India and Britain.

She wanted the council to voice concerns that Sikh activists in Slough were being targeted by the Indian government.

Now a pro-Indian government YouTube channel with more than two million subscribers has singled out Councillor Akram – branding her an ‘extremist’, a ‘traitor’ and even an ‘acid inside the blood.’

In the video, Mr Arya calls Councillor Akram along with six other independent councillors ‘radical Islamists'.

He said this was because of their support for Palestine as well as their motion on the completely separate issue of discrimination against Sikhs in India. Citing their Pakistani heritage, Mr Arya said: “Why are Pakistanis stirring up dirt?

“You left your poor country or whatever your poor locality was and you went to the UK – the UK raised you. Many of them were born in the UK only.

“This is the radicalisation in the blood. Friends, it never goes away, it will remain in the blood, it will become acid inside the blood.”

The video was uploaded by the ‘Chanakya Dialogues Hindi’ YouTube channel, which has almost three million subscribers on July 29. It has since been viewed 473,000 times and had almost 3,000 comments. Although it is in Hindi it is available with English subtitles.

Councillor Akram said she found the video ‘concerning’ – claiming Mr Arya has a history of inciting violence against Sikh activists.

She said: “He’s a mouthpiece for a certain far-right group in India. The fact that he used a picture of me as well is concerning.

“I’ve actually watched some of his stuff in the past but I didn’t know until it was shared with me that there’s another video in the past where he incites violence against Sikh activists in Canada.”

She added: “To say I should go back to my country – this is my country. I was born in Slough, I’m from Slough through and through.”

The video comes after a heated debate at Slough Borough Council last month. Councillor Akram called on the council to write to the government expressing concerns about the safety of activists in Slough campaigning for an independent Sikh state of Khalistan.

She also wanted the council to call for justice for victims of the ‘1984 Sikh genocide’ – which refers to a campaign of deadly anti-Sikh riots in India.

Councillors voted not to debate the motion after a petition signed by 57 Sikh residents of Slough branded it divisive. Yet other Sikh residents were angry that the motion was blocked, protesting in the council chamber.

The Sikh Federation UK also criticised the council for not debating the issue. It said it is speaking to councillors to bring another motion to the next meeting in September.
