A block of 18 flats could be built behind a shop on Farnham Road under plans submitted to Slough Borough Council.

A company AA&Sons Ltd wants to demolish the existing rear building behind 235 Farnham Road and replace it with a three-storey rear extension. It also wants to build a small side extension to the shop in front.

Plans by architect firm Heritage and Architecture say the development would help turn Farnham Road into ‘a more active high street’.

The plans say: “This proposal will succeed in considerably improving the outlook of the area to the rear of the site , and of the street scene, whilst providing increased residential accommodation, bringing more residents into the area, resulting in an increase in trade and a more active high street.”

Under the plans, the three-storey rear extension would contain five two-bed flats and 13 one-bed flats.

Previous plans to build a block of 32 flats on site were withdrawn in 2020 after concerns were raised by planning officers.

The new plans argue that the proposal has been scaled back after discussions with officers. They say the previous plan was for the whole site, whereas this one is for ‘a rear extension only and a very small extension to the shop on the ground floor in the front building'.

The application is still being considered by Slough Borough Council.
