A food and music festival planned in a quiet village this month is set to find out whether it will be allowed to go ahead – with one neighbour warning the music could be ‘unnecessarily loud'.

Tickets are already on sale for the debut Wing Day festival in Cookham, which is set to take place on Cookham Moor on August 31. The event’s website promises performances by DJ Pat Sharp and Bon Jovi and Queen tribute acts.

But its organisers are yet to be granted a licence to sell alcohol and host live music on the moor by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council. One neighbour has asked the council to only grant a licence for one year as a trial, raising noise concerns.

In a letter to the council, the neighbour said: “Everyone knows outdoor music events push the boundaries and is unnecessarily loud.

“The event should only be approved for one year (as any such event should be) to avoid the open-ended licence that snowballs and can’t be restrained.”

Festival organisers say that the live music is not the main focus of the event, and music will be controlled. The organiser told the council: “It is not a concert so do not want it too loud. The event finishes at 9pm latest.”

Councillors on the licensing sub-committee are set to hold a hearing for the application on Wednesday, August 7.
