A MAN has died after he was attacked at a pub in Burnham after two women were allegedly sexually assaulted.
The victim, a man in his fifties, was struck by a blow just before 1am on Saturday at the Red Lion pub in Burnham. He was rushed to hospital but died three days later on Tuesday.
A 28-year-old man, from Langley, Slough, was charged on Sunday with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded to custody. Mr Hanif is due to appear at Aylesbury Crown Court on September 10.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Sadly, the victim died in hospital today (Tuesday) and a homicide investigation has now been launched.
“We are carrying out further enquiries and we will liaise with the CPS to keep them updated following the victim’s death.
“The man’s next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
The two women had been enjoying a night out and had taken part in karaoke before they were allegedly groped by a man who walked past them by the bar on Saturday night (July 20).
An altercation followed where a man was injured in a fight. The injured man passed away in hospital three days later, according to police.
The manager of the Red Lion pub did not wish to comment when visited by a reporter from this newspaper on Wednesday.
The High Street pub closed temporarily in January 2023 after its previous owner left. New tenant Toni Mataj took over the reigns and oversaw a major £290,000 refurbishment of the rundown venue last April.
It reopened in May 2023 after undergoing a complete refit which restored the village pub to its former glory.
