Slough businesses have arranged for the town centre to get blasted with a pressure washer – just as councillors are set to debate giving it a three-monthly deep clean.

Councillor Christine Hulme wants Slough Borough Council to commit to the regular clean at a  meeting on Thursday, July 25.

Now, Slough Business Improvement District – which represents town centre businesses – says it has commissioned a week-long deep clean which began on Monday, July 22.

A spokesperson told the Observer that pavements, the town square and pedestrian areas would be blasted with a pressure washer in the early hours of the mornings.

The spokesperson said: “This will brighten up our town centre, making the area more appealing to people when visiting the high street and creating a sense of civic pride.”

Councillor Hulme is calling for deep cleans to take place every three months as part of a bigger effort to revitalise the town centre.

She also wants the council to find temporary uses for long-vacant shops, and has asked for an update on plans to redevelop the Queensmere and Observatory shopping centres.

Councillors are set to vote on her proposals at a meeting on Thursday, July 25.
