Dozens of homes have been granted planning permission on the site of a former community centre left empty for almost 10 years.
Slough Borough Council has approved plans to build 33 homes where the Haymill Centre once stood, next to Haybrook College on Burnham Lane.
Plans say the development will ‘deliver more quality homes to meet local needs’ as part of a collaboration between the council and private developer Muse.
The homes are set to be built on land just south of Haybrook College, where the Haymill Centre once stood. The centre, which housed community and education facilities, was demolished in 2014 as part of plans to expand Haybrook College.
But some of the land has been left empty ever since and Slough Borough Council sought to redevelop it through the Slough Urban Renewal project. This is a joint venture between the council and Muse.
Despite being a council project, like any other development the plans still needed planning permission before they could proceed. Council officers awarded this on Tuesday, July 9.
Other sites developed by Slough Urban Renewal include the Wexham Green estate at the north of Wexham Road, the Milestone development off Ledgers Road and the Old Library development near Slough High Street.
However plans to build more than 300 homes at Stoke Wharf have been dropped as the cash-strapped council moves to sell its part of the land to help it pay off its debts.
