Support has been offered to five people sleeping rough in tents near where human remains were found in Herschel Park.

There is no information to connect the camp to the discovery on Sunday, July 7, and no arrests have been made.

The council said it was offering support to the people found living there and that it would soon work to clear the area.

A council spokesperson said: “Five individuals are currently camping in Herschel park. Our homeless team is working with all of them to see what support can be offered, if they want to accept it.

“Over the next few weeks we will be seeking their removal from the park and will be doing remedial work to clean the site up and remove undergrowth and brushwood so this area is more open and less attractive to unlawful camping.”

Human remains were found in Herschel Park by a member of the public shortly after 1pm on Sunday July 7. Thames Valley Police has said it expects to keep the area of the park where the remains were found cordoned off ‘into next week'.

No further information about the circumstances of the death has been released.

Tents, a tarpaulin and a sofa where people have apparently been living have been seen just outside the cordon.

There is no information to link the camp to the body. Thames Valley Police has said it can’t confirm if the camp has been included in the investigation while that investigation is ongoing.
