For all the foodies there is only one place to visit if you have a free weekend.
With a population of just 9,110 according to the 2011 census, only the most renowned and skilled business tycoons could hide their flagship restaurants here and watch them thrive into Michelin-star eateries.
So where am I talking about?
Just outside Maidenhead, in the heart of the Berkshire countryside is a village called Bray that is rich with history and culture.
Its location, on the banks of the Thames, gives visitors the perfect backdrop to enjoy all the world-class food that’s on offer whilst enjoying a stunning atmosphere.
Waterside Inn

Steeped in history, The Waterside Inn is one of gems in the Roux family’s crown of restaurants across the globe.
Helmed by Chef Patron, Alain Roux, the Thames-side restaurant known for it’s alfresco dining and exquisite cuisine.
Although the Roux family is perhaps the most influential family in the catering industry, Alain can sometimes be found in the kitchen in Bray where he heads up a team of dedicated staff.
It is said that he is known for his ‘Gallic charm and easy humour’.
The Waterside Inn is one of only nine 3-Michelin star restaurants in the UK.
The Roux family is known for championing young talent across the globe.
Fat Duck
3-Michelin star
Located on Bray High Street, The Fat Duck isn’t any countryside restaurant. It is one of the world’s fastest restaurants to ascend to three-star status on the Michelin list and is legendary for its creativity.
Opened by business and culinary tycoon Heston Blumenthal in 1995, the restaurant is housed in a historical 16th century building.
The Fat Duck gained its first Michelin star in 1999, its second in 2002 and its third in 2004.
For anyone thinking of visiting, your taste buds will be invigorated with a multi-sensory experience.
It is known for its Alice in Wonderland inspired 14-course tasting menu including a dish called Sound of the Sea which includes an audio element.
The current restaurant recently went through a massive refurb in 2014 when it closed for six months. Blumenthal made the courageous decision to move the restaurant to Australia during the renovations.
It truly is a once in a life-time culinary experience.
Hinds Head

The Hinds Head is a Michelin star restaurant that dates back to the 1400s where it served everyone from Royalty to political leaders.
Following the success of The Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthal made the decision to take on the historical pub in 2004 and expand his growing portfolio.
The history of the former hunting lodge can be felt from the moment you walk into the public house, which is also reflected in the menu.
The most popular items on Heston’s Hinds Head menu include his triple cooked chips, Quaking Pudding and the signature yolk scotch egg.
As of 2024, there are nine restaurants in the UK with the highest award from Michelin – 3 Michelin stars.
