After concerns were raised over the Royal Collection Trust’s plans to start charging local residents entry into Windsor Castle, a new plan has been presented by those who feel strongly against this decision.

Residents of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead have been granted free access to Windsor Castle for over a decade - all thanks to a magic yellow card.

However, The Royal Collection Trust has revealed that the free entry into the castle will be coming to an end on June 1.

The news has been met with an outcry from residents, who feel like entry to the popular attraction is a fair exchange for welcoming the world to Windsor.

Community Champion Jon Davey has suggested that residents appeal directly to the king and queen themselves against this decision.

He said all residents, young and old, should write to the King Charles and Queen Camilla and share their 'Memories of Windsor Castle.'

Mr Davey shared the following statement along with his ideas:

"A suggestion for the Royal Collection Trust team… how about if us locals committed to popping into the cafe when we visit.

"Or if the cafe is too busy, buying a small gift for a friend from the souvenir shop.

"That would be a nice way for local people to say thank you and support a local business, would it not?"

As reported by the Windsor Liberal Democrats, from June, residents will need to pay 50 per cent of the ticket price rather than enjoying unlimited access.

Children up to the age of 17 will go free per paying adult.

Mr Davey posted his suggestions on Facebook which resulted in many residents flocking to the comment section to share their views on the matter.

Contradictory to Mr Davey's idea, one person said "All good things come to an end. Can people not just be happy they got free entry up until now? Why is everyone so entitled?"

In response to that commenter, another person wrote "Maybe because we have to pay for the upkeep of Windsor Castle as the Royals don’t own it the state does.

"They take all the profit by having the Royal Collection Trust as a charity business and don’t pay tax either and now they want us to pay them too. Let’s let them own it and pay for it then I won’t mind not going in for free."
