A Christmas attraction is hoping to get permission to continue its annual seasonal appearance until 2028.

Each Christmas, Alexandra Gardens is transformed into a miniature Winter Wonderland, with food stands, rides and an ice skating rink.

Now the attraction is hoping to get permission to open November to January from 2025 to 2028. Assembly of rides would commence in the last week of October.

In the application, it is stated: "Windsor On Ice has now been in operation for more than ten years entertaining the public from the middle of November to the beginning of January each year. Over this time visitor numbers have increased."

The ice rink has a capacity of 150 people per hour and visitors have "never exceeded 500 at any one time" - meaning adequate parking is available in Alexandra Gardens according to the applicant.

However, the attraction hopes to push for sustainable travel in the future.

Rides on site will include Race O Rama, Bungee Trampoline, Dodgems, Monster Trucks, and Helicopters amongst six others.

Slough Observer:

Under the proposals, guests will be able to experience the attraction from November 15 to January 5 each year, with equipment to be cleared by January 20.

Residents have expressed concern over the plans, with Thomas Wigley stating in the consultation: "Alexandra Gardens is the main green and public space in Windsor Town Centre and allowing the erection of the 'Windsor on Ice' attraction, albeit temporarily, will deny residents and visitors to what is normally a quiet and relaxing space."

Others are worried about noise disturbance, including Peter Eaton, who said: "The ice rink and now associated fairground has base beat sound systems blasting out all the time. Luckily at that time of year our windows and doors are closed but the base sounds often proliferate our homes."

The Windsor Neighbourhood Plan Delivery Group have also objected to the plans.

Summing up their concerns, the group said: "Historic connections, sensitive environmental quality, significant and highly valuable public open space and access to many key areas of both towns provided by the site and its location mean the protection of Alexandra Gardens is of paramount importance for local residents and the tens of thousands of visitors who come to this area throughout the year.

"Whilst we appreciate there will be financial benefit to the Council from this visitor attraction, we would suggest that both the size and scale of the Ice Rink installation are excessive and should be reduced before permission is considered."

While Andrew Gibbon is for the plans. He said: "I am supportive of this application which provides a great attraction at Christmas time for use by residents and visitors, my family look forward to this attraction each year.

"This also attracts visitors to the town and provides seasonal employment. I look forward to seeing the ice rink return in future years."
