Essential maintenance work to complete repairs to the A355 and A332 Royal Windsor Way are to take place in May, to protect this key transport link for years to come.

This important investment by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead will see a final phase of work progressed to provide an enhanced surface, on both the northbound and southbound carriageways, and follows on from initial preparation work undertaken in 2023.

During these closures, the council will take the opportunity to carry out other essential works, including line painting, street lighting maintenance, barrier repairs and routine drainage maintenance.

Works are being undertaken by VolkerHighways, the council’s highways contractor, with the asphalt preservation treatment extending the life of the road surface and reducing future maintenance requirements.

In order to facilitate the work, overnight closures on the section of road between the B3024 Dedworth Road roundabout in the south and the roundabout at the junction with the M4 in the north, will be in place from 9pm until 5am.

This is for health and safety and to ensure the work is completed as efficiently as possible. Both roundabouts will remain open.

Work will take place over 4 nights between May 20 and May 23 2024 with phasing’s as below:

  • May 20 – overnight closure of northbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake preparatory works/Patching.
  • May 21 – overnight closure of southbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake preparatory works/patching.
  • May 22 - overnight closure of southbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake carriageway preservation treatment, lining.
  • May 23 – overnight closure of northbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake carriageway preservation treatment, lining.

During the work to the northbound section of the road, the southbound carriageway will remain open, and vice versa.

Signed diversions will be in place during all works phases.

The diversion route will be as follows: A308 Maidenhead Road, A308 Windsor Road, A308 Braywick Road, A308 Kings St, A308 Frascati Way, A4 Bad Godesberg Way, A4 Saint Cloud Way, A4 Bath Road, A355 Tuns Lane.

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and for residents and businesses located within the work area as far as possible, but there may be periods where you could encounter delays.

Please be patient with the contractor while they control traffic to facilitate a safe passage through the works.

The project is weather dependent and thus the programmed start and completion dates may change. Any changes will be notified on the Advance Warning signs which will be placed on site.

This investment is an essential part of the council’s maintenance programme and is necessary to make sure the roads are kept in a safe and useable condition.
