Part of a popular country park has been closed to the public after a 'serious' sewage pollution incident.
Residents living near Denham Country Park spotted signage warning them of a category one sewage pollution incident at a riverside area in the park earlier this week.
The signs tell passersby to 'keep out of the water' following ongoing sewage discharge entering the river upstream.
Denham Country Park spans the banks of the Rivers Colne, Misbourne and Frays.
Clive Harriss, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure confirmed that the council was working with the Environment Agency to monitor the site.
He said: “Due to a recently declared category 1 pollution incident in Denham Country Park, we have put out a signage warning visitors of the pollution present in the river and advising them not to enter the water.
“We have also physically closed off the beach area for safety. We will keep this under review based on updates from the Environment Agency, who are coordinating their response with Thames Water and Affinity Water.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time and advise them to follow the signage carefully.”
