Residents have been warned to brace themselves for strong winds as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind.

Berkshire is to be hit by strong winds today, while rain batters the area.

From 6:25am today (April 15) until 10pm tonight, the Met Office has stated there is a chance of "short-term loss of power and other services".

Residents have also been warned of delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Bus services are also likely to be affected.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "A band of heavy and blustery showers will move southeast across the region this morning, clearing to an afternoon of bright spells and scattered showers.

"Showers may be heavy at times with a chance of thunder before easing later."

Wind gusts of up to 43mph can be expected.

It comes just days after a mini heatwave saw temperatures of up to 21 degrees Celsius across the UK.

  • Protecting your property from damage and other people from injury. Check for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them in high winds.
  • Plan your journey ahead of time and allow for delays, check for updates regularly, pack essentials and ensure your phone is charged
  • Drive slowly and be cautious of overtaking. Hold the steering wheel firmly. Allow extra room for cyclists, motorbikes, lorries and buses
