A petrol station along a busy north-south route in Slough is set to open as an Asda convenience store.
The fuel station has been run by Esso Spar in Stoke Poges Lane for many years. But now it is being taken over by Asda’s Express brand as part of a nationwide expansion.
It will open as an Asda Express tomorrow (Friday, April 5) a spokesperson has confirmed.
They said: “This conversion programme is an incredibly exciting moment for our business and accelerates our presence in the fast-growing convenience market. We look forward to bringing Asda’s great value in fuel and groceries to many more communities across the UK.”
Asda wants to be able to run the fuel station 24 hours a day.
The supermarket giant has applied to sell alcohol at all times of the day and night, and sell food and soft drinks from 11pm to 5am each morning.
For Asda to be able to sell alcohol and serve food and drinks from 11pm onwards, it requires an operating licence from Slough Borough Council.
The supermarket submitted a licensing application recently.
Anyone wishing to comment on the application can do so by emailing licensing@slough.gov.uk.
The deadline for responses is Monday, April 15.
According to the Esso website, the fuel station is currently open from 6am to 10pm each day.
The petrol station is located next to the old Good Companions pub, which closed in 2003 and was subsequently turned into the Haveli restaurant.
It’s understood that the restaurant operators vacated the Good Companions building, which was demolished in 2021 after planning approval was granted to replace it with 46 apartments.
According to councillor Mohammed Nazir (Labour, Manor Park & Stoke), the construction has been completed and the flats are being marketed for renters to occupy.
