A fast food chain has submitted plans to the council for a new layout of its drive-thru as it seeks to undertake a refurbishment.
McDonald's has been a big name at the Bath Road Shopping Park for over a decade, with the brand confirming it is here to stay when they bought the £3.5million site last year.
It came as the Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited sold the retail park to SEGRO for £120.25million in January 2023 - but not before McDonald's bought the rights to its current unit.
The deal means McDonald's now has greater freedom for development and planning applications can be submitted without express permission from the retail park owner.
At the time, a McDonald's spokesperson said: "Later this year we hope to further invest in the restaurant through our ambitious Convenience of the Future refurbishment works which will create a more enjoyable experience for our customers, delivery partners and restaurant team.”
The Convenience of the Future Upgrade Programme typically includes a front counter redesign, a dedicated courier waiting area and entrance, a new kitchen design and an improved car park and drive-thru layout.
On March 1, McDonald's submitted plans to the Council for alterations to the elevations of the site, including an extension, new entrance and access doors.
Within the plans, it is also stated how an internal refurbishment will take place including the moving of furniture and decorating.
They are also requesting permission to update current drive-thru booths and a minor reconfiguration of the drive-thru lanes.
Under the plans vehicles will be seen to two at a time in a side-by-side layout, ordering from displays on an island, covered by an overhead canopy.
This will be done by making use of the first two rows of parking bays on the northern side of McDonald's.
The proposed start date for the refurbishment is set to be September 2, with the work to be finalised on November 28.
During this time the restaurant will be "completely closed and shall remain closed for the duration of the project".
McDonald's has been contacted for comment on the plans.
Slough Borough Council has yet to make a decision on the proposal.
McDonald's is now the only occupied unit on the western side of the retail park after Next took up a five-year lease on the eastern side.
It joined the likes of B&Q, Tapi Carpets, Boots and Carpetright earlier this year.
SEGRO is yet to confirm its plans for the western side of the retail park.
