A shopping centre development is in jeopardy after it has been confirmed it is facing "challenges".

Queensmere Shopping Centre was set for redevelopment in 2022, with the council confirming ADIA (Abu Dhabi Investment Agency) would be leading the demolish of the centre, including the Observatory site, to build hundreds of new homes, along with shops, offices, and public open space.

In January this year, the west side of Queensmere was closed as phase one of plans to get the ball rolling on the development, with an initial benchmark stating demolition would begin as early as late 2023.

However now in December, Queensmere appears trapped in time, with areas falling into disrepair as shops move from the centre.

In August Slough Borough Council revealed there were issues, stating: “ADIA are reviewing how to deliver the scheme for which they have, in principal, planning permission in light of the current economic situation.

“The council is in ongoing dialogue with ADIA and is pressing them to bring the scheme forward as proposed or to set out an alternative approach."

Now British Land, acting on behalf of ADIA has provided an update on the situation.

A spokesperson said: "The current economic climate is creating challenges for many town centre regeneration projects across the UK.

"We continue to actively work with the local authority to review the development and will provide a further update when one is available."
