An important Grade I listed building could soon get new window frames and doors designed to better reflect its historic nature.

The Godolphin Building at Baylis House Hotel and Business Centre is seeking listed building consent from the planning authority to replace uPVC windows and doors with some better suited to a Georgian style.

The design and access statement reads: “It is clear the original windows have been replaced with a UPVC system not in keeping with the current listing and therefore the client wishes to undertake the replacement of those offending windows and doors with new windows and doors more in keeping and that reflect the existing/original glazed configurations.”

It adds that the current windows would be “carefully” removed to limit any damage to the existing brickwork.

They would be replaced with timber windows in a Georgian sash style. Most of the windows in question are at the rear of the property.

The heritage statement reads: “Essentially all existing non-traditional and unsympathetic units will be replaced with new painted timber frame sash windows and Georgian style doors which will replicate those to the existing front elevation in terms of material, style, appearance, and finish.”
