Two shipping containers could be added to a Maidenhead office car park to boost storage space for a local business.

De Beers UK Ltd has submitted plans to install the storage units in a car park at its Maidenhead office.

The containers would be just over six metres long, two metres wide and two and a half metres tall.

The design and access statement reads: “Additional storage has been deemed necessary to increase the storage capacity for items currently unable to be accommodated elsewhere on the site.

“The main function and design of the proposals seeks to extend the storage capacity without the need for a permanent building, which can in-turn be relocated as required to another site.

“The current intention is to keep the containers on site for five years and reassess their requirement at that time.”

It was also noted that the number of parking spaces would not be reduced as the containers would be placed at the end of the site where there are no marked places.

The statement adds: “The proposed location of the containers is such that there will be no impediment to the current use of the car park as no vehicles can currently park in that area and access to the site is at the opposite end of the car park.

“Immediately in front and south of the proposed location is open tarmac and is used as a fire assembly point, access to which will not be reduced or impeded.”
