A new five-storey block of flats has been earmarked for approval in Slough.

The proposed apartment block on Petersfield Avenue would house 22 residential flats along with access and parking.

Officers are recommending that Slough Borough Council’s planning committee approve the plans subject to completion of a deal to secure affordable housing and other contributions.

The officers’ report reads: “The site is that of the former Dulux Decorator Centre which still comprises a detached, single-storey, rectangular building that sits back from the front of the site with hardstanding around.

“The building was used for the sales of paint and other decorators’ equipment under Class E.

“The building is now vacated with some use of the hardstanding by the adjacent car service centre. Access points exist at the south-western corner of the site and the south-eastern corner, too.”

The works would see the existing building at the site demolished to make way for the part four, part five-story block.

It would contain six three-bedroom flats, 11 two-bedroom flats and five one bedroom flats.

The lower ground floor would be used for on-site parking spaces, while cycle storage facilities would also be available.

A ramp at the site’s south west corner on Petersfield Avenue would give access to the lower ground floor parking area.

A total of 22 parking spaces – each of which would have electric vehicle charging facilities – would be provided, with one space set aside for a blue badge holder.

The applicant has also agreed a contribution of £37,097 towards a zebra crossing on Petersfield Avenue.

The officers’ report adds: “Whilst the site is located outside of the Town Centre, it does lie close by the boundary and moreover in close proximity of many recent residential developments not only in Petersfield Avenue but at the former Akzo Nobel site on the east side of Wexham Road, where flatted schemes have been approved.

“Therefore, the principle of flatted development at this specific location is considered to be acceptable and not inappropriate in the context of the site.”

As a development proposing more than 10 homes, it will be considered by Slough Borough Council’s planning committee – where it is due to be discussed on November 29.
