A petition has been put forward calling for Slough to be recognised as part of west London.

The plea has been submitted to the UK Parliamentary petitions website, in a bid to make the east Berkshire town part of the capital.

It gave the simple justification: “Because everyone keeps on saying that Slough isn’t part of London.”

The borough of Slough falls just outside of the boundaries of Greater London, sharing a small border with the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The town is not formally recognised on any level as part of the capital, not being represented by the Greater London Authority or the Mayor of London.

It is also outside of the contentious London Ultra Low Emission Zone, which charges motorists of high-polluting vehicles £12.50 per day to drive.

However, the petition was promptly rejected by the Parliamentary website, which explained the motion it raised was too local for consideration.

Its explanation reads: “It requests action at a local level. “We can’t accept petitions that request action at a local level.

“You could ask your MP to take action on your concerns about this issue, including by asking them to present a public (paper) petition about this."
