A Maidenhead school could soon get upgraded sports facilities under plans submitted for approval.

Claires Court School’s site at the Ridgeway has applied to Windsor and Maidenhead Council for a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on the existing school grounds.

If approved, it would be used for a variety of sports including netball, tennis, football, hockey, basketball and lacrosse.

The planning statement reads: “In September 2023, at the start of the 23/24 academic year, the Junior Girls School was colocated on the Ridgeway Site with the existing Junior Boys.

“This provides significant opportunities for education of the pupils but also brings additional demands for sports at the school.

“The development of a MUGA on the site will provide significant opportunity for sports uses on site, comparable to the facilities on the other existing Claires Court sites within Maidenhead.”

Its planning statement noted that the school currently has no facilities of this type.

The Ridgeway location is part of the independent day school’s junior students’ facilities.

The statement adds: “The proposed upgrade of the sport’s facilities is deemed important to ensure the school’s ability to continue its delivery of the highest standard of education and that their sports facilities can be used all year.”

The design and access statement says it will be “necessary” to remove three trees to the west of the MUGA as part of the plan, but that there will still be a “substantial” tree and shrub screen.
